The
artist makes each glass bead individually on a propane/oxygen torch. Sticks
of colored moretti glass are melted on a steel mandrel that has been dipped
in a graphite paste to prevent the glass from sticking to the mandrel.
After the bead has been created and "painted" with glass, the bead is placed
in a brick kiln at 980 degrees to be "annealed". This allows the bead to
be heated and cooled evenly to prevent any stress points in the bead, thus
making the bead really hard and less likely to break. |
